The Museum of the City of Athens

The museum building on 5-7 I. Paparrigopoulou St., Klafthmonos Square is one of the very few preserved Athenian buildings dated to the early years of the establishment of the modern Greek state. Also known as The Old Palace it was used as a dwelling for the first royal couple of Greece between 1836 and 1843.

The painting above by Jacques Carrey shows the Marquis de Nointel and his entourage in Athens in 1674 (housed in the Athos G. Tsoutsos Hall).
